INTERNATIONAL MEXICAN FOLK DANCE COMPETITION

COUPLES COMPETITION INFORMATION

  • All ages are as of September 9, 2023.

  • Participants will only be allowed to perform in the category corresponding to their age. A birth certificate & school I.D. or valid state I.D. must be presented on the day of the competition at CHECK-IN.

  • Participants may participate in ONE GROUP and ONE CATEGORY ONLY.

  • The timer will begin immediately after the group is announced and the music begins.

  • LEGADO will allow a 15-second "grace period" for any routine over the allotted time limit. Any routine that exceeds the 15-second "grace period" will be subject to a one (1) point deduction for each second past the "grace period."

  • All participants, including directors and faculty, must sign a liability waiver upon arrival. NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE A PARTICIPATION MEDAL.

THE STAGE

STAGE DIMENSIONS: 52 FEET WIDE BY 38 FEET DEEP

SIDE STAGES ARE OFF-LIMITS.

PROPS

  • General props are allowed.

  • It is the sole responsibility of each group to ensure that its props are taken on and off stage. Legado and theatre staff cannot help with props.

  • It is the group’s responsibility to ensure that the stage is completely clean and clear after the routine is finished.

  • Please do not build props backstage, as this can be hazardous to the performers.

FIRE, CONFETTI, STREAMERS, PAINT, POWDER, CHALK, ETC.

LEGADO does not allow the use of fire, confetti, streamers, paint, powder, or chalk. If you are using another substance (glitter, water, etc) that you think MIGHT be an issue, please contact us and ask us before registering.

LIGHTING

  • Groups will not be allowed to request special lighting.

  • All performances will begin in a blackout and end in a blackout.

  • General lighting will be provided.

MUSIC

  • Audio files are accepted in MP3, WAV, M4A or AIF format only, up to 50 MB each. We recommend MP3 format. Music shall be emailed to contactus@thee-academy.com.

  • Although we MUCH prefer music being uploaded prior to the event, we will still accept music at the event on a Flash Drive if absolutely necessary.

  • If submitting a Flash Drive at the event, please note that audio files are accepted in MP3, WAV, M4A or AIF format only, up to 50 MB each. We recommend MP3 format.

  • All Flash Drives must be submitted to the Info Desk onsite. All Flash Drives will be imported and run through a computer system at the competition.

  • Whether uploading your music or bringing a Flash Drive to the event, ALWAYS have a back-up in another format (like an iPod/iPhone) just in case!

JUDGES CRITERIA

COMPETITION RULES & REGULATIONS

  • Entry fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. NO EXCEPTIONS. However, name changes will be allowed if necessary.

  • All competition fees are per person.

  • Registered teachers/studio owners cannot perform in the competition.

  • Competing dancers may compete in ONE GROUP and ONE CATEGORY only.

  • Studios with multiple locations may compete as separate groups. If they are competing as separate groups, there may be no mixing of dancers from each location in competition routines.

  • Excessive scenery, special lighting, and the use of live animals are prohibited.

  • Judges may stop a number in progress and request that it be repeated. If the theatre’s equipment fails, the group may continue or redo the number.

  • All numbers must appear according to the scheduled sequence unless a Legado Stage Manager grants permission otherwise.

  • Competing dancers should be ready 30 minutes before their scheduled competition time. You will be expected to perform if the competition runs ahead of schedule.

  • THE SCHEDULE WILL BE EMAILED THE DAY BEFORE THE COMPETITION AT 9:00 PM.

  • All attendees authorize the use of their images in photos and videos for any and all advertising or promotional purposes for the Legado Competition.

  • Entries are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Competition is limited to the time available.

  • Legado reserves the right to change all rules and regulations without notice. All questions that arise are resolved at the discretion of the Legado Director.
